With Christmas fast approaching, Michal Sukkar has launched the inaugural Deakin Christmas Giving Tree appeal in support of the Salvation Army.
In our local community, the Salvation Army does an incredible job of providing assistance to people who find themselves in difficult circumstances. The Salvation Army Ringwood Community Services Centre helps people to buy food, furniture, household goods, clothing, and other basic necessities which most of us take for granted.
At Christmas time, the Salvation Army goes that extra mile to meet the increased demand and ensure local residents suffering hardship do not miss out on enjoying good food and receiving something special.
Michael said the 2014 Deakin Christmas Giving Tree was a great opportunity for the community to support the work of the Salvation Army and help to brighten this Christmas for someone in need.
“I am inviting local residents, community organisations and businesses to support this worthwhile initiative by donating gift vouchers as well as non-perishable food items, including Christmas puddings and cakes, new toys, clothing, blankets and bedding, and toiletries,” he said.
“These gifts will make a real difference to local people in need this Christmas.”
Donations can be left at Michael’s office at 5/602 Whitehorse Road in Mitcham until 5pm on Friday, 19 December 2014.
All of the donated items will be presented directly to the Salvation Army Ringwood before Christmas Day.
