Subscribe NowMedia Statement: Labor’s Western Distributor Proposal
The announcement today that Daniel Andrews will begin planning the new Western Distributor road ahead of the congestion-busting East West Link is a slap in the face to residents in Melbourne’s outer-eastern suburbs.
Daniel Andrews has paid $640 million not to build the job creating, shovel-ready East West Link project, instead opting to proceed with a half-baked plan to toll commuters in Melbourne’s east to build a new road in the west.
The sheer audacity of this announcement confirms that Labor has completely abandoned the people of Melbourne’s outer-east.
Labor has cast aside the needs of residents in Blackburn, Nunawading, Mitcham, Vermont, Ringwood Croydon, Heathmont, and Bayswater and will instead charge them for a road that sits out of their reach.
The Commonwealth Government continues to put $3 billion on the table to build the East West Link.
I have fought hard for the people of Deakin, and I will continue to fight for those people in my electorate who tell me to build the East West Link.
