jobactive delivers in Deakin
Federal Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar today welcomed the Assistant Minister for Employment Luke Hartsuyker to Deakin to launch the Eastland Jobs Initiative and to officially open a new jobactive shopfront.
Mr Sukkar said, “Minister Hartsuyker and I attended the launch of the Eastland Jobs Initiative which is a new partnership between Eastland, QIC, the Australian Retailers Association, Maroondah City Council and the Australian Government’s new jobactive employment services.
“The Eastland Jobs Initiative will create up to 1500 jobs in the retail and hospitality sector for job seekers in the Deakin region”.
“This is a great opportunity for local job seekers and will help to strengthen our local economy. I am delighted to see our new jobactive employment services being involved in this initiative to help match local job seekers to work opportunities,” Mr Sukkar said.
Mr Sukkar said he looked forward to working with all of the new jobactive services in Deakin.
“From 1 July, there will be eight organisations delivering one or more services to job seekers in Deakin.
“I congratulate the Salvation Army Employment Plus, AMES, Employment Services Group, Job Prospects, MatchWorks, Sarina Russo Job Access, Holmesglen Institute and Mission Providence for being selected to be part of jobactive in the Deakin electorate.”
Mr Sukkar and Mr Hartsuyker attended the opening of the new Salvation Army Employment Plus jobactive site in Ringwood today ahead of the national launch of jobactive later this week.
Mr Hartsuyker said that the new jobactive system had a strong focus on meeting the needs of employers.
“The Government is investing $6.8 billion in jobactive to help more job seekers into work and to make it easier for employers to offer an opportunity,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“One of the key features of the new system is our $1.2 billion wage subsidy pool.
“Wage subsidies of up to $6,500 are available for employers who hire eligible young, Indigenous, parent or long-term job seekers. There are also $10,000 wage subsidies available for hiring mature age job seekers through the Restart programme.
“The Coalition Government is committed to helping more Australians move from welfare into work, and the start of jobactive is another example of how the Government is delivering real outcomes for job seekers and for business,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
