Disaster assistance will be available to residents in Maroondah and Manningham under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, following the storms and floods which occurred in late December.
Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, said he had spoken to a number of local residents affected by the floods that occurred on 29 December 2016. “It isn’t easy dealing with weather events like this one, and I know that there were in people in our community who had their homes, cars and other belongings damaged during the storm,” Mr Sukkar said.
“I’m very pleased that the Turnbull Government is able to offer some financial assistance to support those affected to recover and get their lives back to normal.”
Payments of up to $520 per adult and $260 per child (up to a maximum of $1,820 per household) are available to meet immediate needs, including emergency food, shelter, clothing and personal items. Assistance can also be provided through in-kind direct material aid.
This assistance is administered by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.
