Whitehorse Men’s Shed galloping ahead with new upgrade

• Upgrade complete of Whitehorse Men’s Shed in Nunawading, Melbourne
• Facilities include a new shed and the installation of new saw and sanding tools
• The Australian Government invested $20,000 in the project

A substantial upgrade to the Whitehorse Men’s Shed in Nunawading, Melbourne, will provide a safer working environment for its 50 regular users and will help attract greater membership to the community facility.

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, who attended today’s opening event, said the Men’s Shed provides a vital role in supporting and improving health and wellbeing in the local community.

“Improving these facilities will not only allow the Men’s Shed to create more specialised and quality workmanship in areas such as woodworking, but safeguard its future through new members,” Mr Sukkar said.

“It is a great support hub within the community and provides active assistance to a variety of other institutions, such as the disability service provider Nadrasca.

“The upgrade included the purchase of a cabinet saw, orbital sander and a filtered dust extraction system.

“This project has greatly increased the size of the shed itself too, erecting a four-by-three metre shed as well as a six-by-three metre annex which will complement the existing machinery shed, workshop space and garden area.

“We have also increased the storage space and improved and increased the covered area working space, giving the men more room to get busy.”

Barry Phillips, Whitehorse Men’s Shed Coordinator, said we’re extremely pleased with the upgrade and new equipment at the Shed and thankful to Michael Sukkar for his ongoing support with the project.

The Coalition Government invested $20,000 in the project with the Rotary Club of Nunawading contributing the remaining $634.
