East-West Link Means More Time Together For Deakin Families
The Coalition’s commitment to build the East-West Link will give Deakin families more time to spend together instead of stuck in traffic, says Michael Sukkar, Liberal Candidate for Deakin.
Shadow Minister for Families, the Hon Kevin Andrews, and Senator for Victoria, Helen Kroger, today joined Mr Sukkar in Deakin to launch mobile billboards promoting the Coalition’s pledge to build the landmark road project.
Mr Andrews said families throughout Melbourne would benefit from the construction of the critical piece of road infrastructure.
“The message that comes through loud and clear when we talk to families, including here in Deakin, is that they are wasting precious hours stuck on the freeway,” he said.
“The Coalition understands that people want to be able drive to and from work as quickly as possible so that they can spend more time at home with their families.
“Only the Coalition will build the East-West Link, easing congestion and helping people to get home to their loved ones sooner.”
Senator Kroger said the billboards had been well-received in the electorate.
“It is very clear that people living here in Deakin support the Federal Coalition’s $1.5 billion funding commitment to build the missing link in Melbourne’s road network,” she said.
“They appreciate that the East-West Link will not only benefit them personally, by reducing the hours they lose in traffic, but will boost productivity throughout Victoria.”
Mr Sukkar said Mike Symon and the Labor Government continued to fail the people of Deakin by refusing to fund the major road project.
“There are more than 34,000 families living in Deakin who are being let down by Mike Symon and the Labor Government,” he said.
“This week, yet again, Labor has made it abundantly clear that they are more concerned about inner-city Greens votes than helping improves the lives of people in Deakin.”
The 18-kilometre East-West Link Project will connect the Eastern Freeway with the Western Ring Road and the Eastern and Tullamarine Freeways, with a connection to the Port.
