- $24.5 million in federal funding for upgrades to Canterbury Road.
- The upgrades will include the construction of a third city-bound lane between Dorset Road and Liverpool Road.
Federal Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, has announced today that the Federal Government, through the $1 billion Urban Congestion Fund, will be providing $24.5 million for upgrades to Canterbury Road. This comes on top of the $20 million that is already being invested along this stretch of road.
Federal Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, said work on this vital project would deliver improved pedestrian and commuter safety by reducing congestion on one of the busiest roads in the electorate.
“The Government is investing an additional $24.5 million for upgrades to improve safety and reduce congestion. These works will include a full three-lane upgrade in each direction ensuring the full potential of adjacent businesses as well as the traffic needs of the Bayswater Business Precinct and local residents are met”, Mr Sukkar said.
“This investment and the broader Urban Congestion Fund are all about reducing travel times and vehicle operating costs, delivering a more reliable road network for commuters and freight alike. This will ensure that local residents spend less time in traffic congestion, while supporting freight operators with critical last-mile access to our local employment centre and business hubs.”
