Funding Injection for Deakin Home and Community Care Services

Frail, older people and younger people with disability in Deakin will get extra support to stay in their own homes thanks to a $571,175 funding boost from the Australian and Victorian Governments.

Federal Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, said the extra Home and Community Care funding would be distributed among 10 service providers in the electorate.

“This extra funding will help expand existing services or create new ones in identified priority areas of need across the state, including in Deakin, to support Victorians who need help to continue to live at home,” Mr Sukkar said.

“It will also enable people to keep active and involved in their local communities.”

The Assistant Minister for Social Services, Senator Mitch Fifield, said the funding was part of $668 million in joint Australian and Victorian funding invested in the Home and Community Care program across the state this financial year.

“The Australian Government believes that older Australians deserve to have the support they need to live active and healthy lives, and to continue to live at home when possible,” Senator Fifield said.

“The Home and Community Care program provides critical services that help older people and people with a disability stay independent for longer, by providing care where most people prefer to receive it – in their own homes and communities.

“This includes nursing and allied health care, personal care, domestic assistance, meals, and social support, as well as respite services for carers – without which many people wouldn’t be able to remain living independently.

“These are all essential to older people and people with disability staying safe and well, and remaining connected to their community and in control of their own lives.”
