ANOTHER LABOR BROKEN PROMISE ON HOUSING

Labor’s Housing Minister has let the cat out of the bag with Labor seemingly walking away from another key pre-election commitment.

The Minister has reneged on Labor’s commitment to build 30,000 social and affordable homes over the next five years, instead stating Labor would make 1,200 dwellings available in each State and Territory in the same period.

Only delivering 1,200 for each State and Territory will deliver less than one third of what was originally promised, down to 9,600 dwellings over the next five years.

This is drastically fewer social and affordable homes than what was delivered under the former Coalition government, in which billions of dollars in low-cost loans was provided to support more than 15,000 social and affordable homes. The Coalition government’s $1 billion National Housing Infrastructure Facility also unlocked a further 6,900 social and affordable dwellings.

This is just another nail in the coffin for the Albanese Government’s deeply flawed housing policy, which continues to unravel before our eyes.

With Labor’s ‘Help to Buy’ housing election commitment on life support and its Housing Australia Future Fund in disarray, Labor is now closing the door on vulnerable Australians and walking away from yet another commitment taken to the election one year ago.
