I am fortunate to have a number of well-run retirement villages in my electorate of Deakin. One of these is the Aveo Cherrytree Grove Retirement Village in Croydon. Cherrytree’s residents recently invited me to hold a forum in in the village. More than 100 people came along to hear about the government’s policies and to ask questions about a range of issues, including the pressing need to repair the budget, the government’s ongoing support for pensioners, and our successful border protection policies. It was fantastic to see the residents taking an active and productive interest in the country’s future. It was, in fact, the second time that I have held a forum at the village. The residents were delighted to host the current Speaker, prior to last year’s election when she was the shadow minister for seniors.
Cherrytree is a vibrant place and both the staff and members of the residents committee deserve recognition and congratulations for their efforts in fostering a cohesive and strong community spirit. I again thank the residents for their hospitality and I look forward to our continuing close relationship, which enables me to better represent their interests in this place.
