MEDIA RELEASE

7 January 2025

NEW YEAR, SAME LABOR HOUSING CRISIS

New Australian Bureau of Statistics Building Approvals data has confirmed Anthony Albanese’s 1.2 million homes by 2029 promise is now even further out of reach than it already was – with industry leaders estimating a shortfall by more than 400,000 homes.

The seasonally adjusted data released today shows the total number of approved dwellings declined by 3.6 per cent in November to 14,998, following a 5.2 per cent increase in October.

The fall in November dwelling approvals was observed across all residential building types.

Approvals for private sector houses dropped by 1.7 per cent to 9,028, while approvals for private dwellings excluding houses fell by 10.8 per cent to 5,285.

If the Albanese Labor Government actually took its job seriously and spent less time obsessing over the Opposition, our nation would be in a much better position than it is today.

Australians are not blind to the fact that Labor is clutching at straws when it comes to the paltry housing announcements made over almost a full term in Government.

There is no end in sight to Labor’s housing crisis.

Under Labor, housing will never be a priority, maintaining mortgage and rental repayments has never been more difficult, and home ownership has never been further out of reach.

Only a Coalition government will get our country back on track.
