The Deakin Community Cup, held at Terrara Park in Vermont South on Sunday, November 9 was a huge success!
Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, attended the event and congratulated everyone on their participation in the day.
Due to the huge turnout on Sunday, $665 was raised with the much needed funds being donated to Taralye, the oral language centre for deaf children in Blackburn.
More than 60 children from 10 junior clubs in the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association (BHRDCA) took part in the event.
U/10, U/12 and U/14 players divided into two teams, representing the north and south of the electorate, which were named Hutchinson and Deakin after the first two elected MPs in Deakin.
They competed for the Cup in three simultaneous matches.
Team Deakin Davis defeated Team Deakin Hutchinson (2-1).
Player of Match awards were presented to U/10 Billy Box (Heatherdale CC), U/12 Zeke Lazzaro (Heatherdale CC) and U/12 Jack Strybosh (Laburnum CC). Each boy received a pair of Kookaburra gloves.
Mr Sukkar provided a commemorative cap to all players and volunteers as well as presenting the Deakin Community Cup to the winning side.
