$9.3 million for road upgrades in Deakin

A re-elected Turnbull Government will reduce congestion for motorists in Deakin by investing $9.3 million to upgrade roads in the electorate.

The $9.3 million package includes:

$1.2 million for the upgrade of Canterbury Road at the Heathmont shops. Through this funding, the Turnbull Government is backing small business and making daily life easier and safer for Heathmont residents. Residents, traders and the Maroondah City Council have been very vocal about the need for these road upgrades, which the Turnbull Government will deliver.

$100,000 investment will fix a well-known blackspot at the intersection of Maroondah Highway and Dunlavin Road. This lane-widening project will ease traffic congestion and make the intersection a lot safer for city-bound motorists turning right into Dunalvin Road. Local residents and community groups, and the Whitehorse City Council have all argued for this important investment for the community.

$50,000 in funding for the notorious Bedford Road & Canterbury Road black spot to improve safety for the local community. The intersection of Bedford and Canterbury Roads is one of the most dangerous in Deakin, with more than 60 serious collisions over the past five years.

Michael Sukkar has heard the concerns of local residents and the Maroondah City Council, and this funding will make the intersection safer for pedestrians and motorists. These road works will complement the $1 million in road safety funding that Michael Sukkar has already delivered for the upgrade of the Great Ryrie Street and Bedford Road intersection.

$8 million to upgrade the Maroondah Highway/Dorset Road/Bellara Drive intersection to ease traffic congestion and make it safer for motorists. This grid-locked intersection has been an increasing source of frustration for Croydon residents in recent years with crippling traffic congestion, especially during peak hour. This upgrade to the intersection will ease traffic congestion and make it safer for motorists.

These roads have been a key priority for Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin.

The Turnbull Government is investing a total of $7.6 billion in Victorian infrastructure. In addition, the Turnbull Government remains committed to the East West Link and will provide $3 billion to the first Victorian Government willing to build this vital project.

The Turnbull Government is spending a record $50 billion on land transport infrastructure as part of our carefully structured economic plan to provide jobs and growth and a secure future for Australian families.
