Applications invited for community heritage projects
Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, today invited local organisations that need support to preserve and conserve important Australian heritage to apply for a Community Heritage Grant.
Managed by the National Library, and funded by the Australian Government, the Community Heritage Grants program provides grants of up to $15,000 each to help local organisations preserve and maintain nationally significant cultural heritage collections of documents and objects at the local level.
“I encourage not-for-profit organisations with heritage responsibilities in Deakin to apply for a grant,” Michael said.
“The local library, archive, museum, historical society, Indigenous groups and migrant community groups with a significant historical collection may be eligible for funding.”
“These grants help to protect our local heritage and they provide both funding for conservation projects and access to expertise from highly experienced professionals in our national collecting institutions,” Michael said.
“This is a great opportunity for locals to access resources and develop the skills to manage historical collections of artefacts, letters, photographs and audio-visual material.”
The 2016 Community Heritage Grants Program is managed by the National Library in conjunction with the National Archives of Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Museum of Australia.
