Budget 2015: Roads to Recovery a double boost to local roads in Deakin

Local streets and roads in Deakin will benefit from the Commonwealth Government’s Roads to Recovery Programme being doubled in 2015–16 to $1,559,890.

The 2015 Budget confirmed a national commitment to doubling the Roads to Recovery investment in the next financial year to support greater access for Australians and improved safety, economic and social outcomes.

This is part of the Australian Government’s Economic Action Strategy to invest a record $50 billion in world-class productivity-enhancing infrastructure in Victoria to create jobs, improve safety, reduce travel times and boost economic growth.

Federal Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, said that the Roads to Recovery funding boost would support much-needed local street and road projects in Deakin.

“This major injection of funding for local street and road priorities will create jobs, boost our local economy and make our roads safer for the whole community.

“Doubling investment for 2015-16 epitomises the importance the Australian Government places on local needs and building the infrastructure Australia needs from the local level up.”

“Importantly, Roads to Recovery projects are nominated by local councils to meet local priorities.”

Michael said that both the Maroondah and Whitehorse councils in the Deakin electorate will receive the following Roads to Recovery funding in the 2015-16 financial year:

  • Maroondah City Council: $724,238; and
  • Whitehorse City Council: $835,652.
