Croydon apprentice Melinda Lethbridge has been named Australian Apprentice of the Year at the 2014 Australian Training Awards.
The local apprentice accepted the award in front of more than 700 people at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday, 21 November.
Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane congratulated all winners and the many individuals, businesses and registered training organisations that were finalists across the 17 award categories.
“These finalists demonstrate the tremendous opportunities provided by Australia’s vocational education and training system,” Mr Macfarlane said.
“The Australian Training Awards recognises the best in skills and I commend all finalists for their contribution to the nation’s workforce.
“A skilled workforce is critical to driving productivity gains and a stronger economy.”
Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, congratulated the local winner.
“Melinda deserves to feel very proud of this achievement,” Mr Sukkar said.
“It is pleasing to see her hard work and dedication recognised with this prestigious national award.
“Melinda is fantastic role model for other young people, including young women, who are thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship.”
The Australian Training Awards is the peak, national awards for the vocational education and training system in Australia. It is held each year in November.
