Michael Sukkar Secures $3 billion for East West Link

The Turnbull Government has today confirmed that $3 billion in federal funding will continue to be available to the Victorian government to build the East West Link.

Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, who joined Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for the announcement, has welcomed the Government’s renewed commitment to building the East West Link.

“We still stand ready to build the East West Link, while Labor continues to ignore Melbourne’s eastern suburbs,” Mr Sukkar said.

“The Prime Minister’s $3 billion funding commitment to delivering this vital road project recognises the desperate need of residents and business – especially those in Deakin – who have been crying out for this road to be built.

“I’ve been working relentlessly to ensure $3 billion remains on the table for the East West Link, and I thank the Prime Minister for understanding just how important this piece of road infrastructure is to Melbourne.

“Labor has completely failed people living in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and wasted $1.1 billion of taxpayers’ money by refusing to build the East West Link.

“Bill Shorten supports Daniel Andrews wasting $1.1 billion and depriving people in Melbourne’s east of this critical road.

“But I will not stop fighting for my constituents until the East West Link is built.”

Today’s confirmation of funding for the East West Link accompanied the announcement of $1.5 billion earmarked by the Turnbull Government for major transport infrastructure projects in metropolitan Melbourne and country Victoria.
