Ringwood’s Aquanation opens with a splash

The Australian Government is delivering better community infrastructure in Deakin with the opening of the $48 million Aquanation project in Ringwood, Victoria today.

Federal Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar was on site to officially open the facility and said the state-of-the-art aquatic, leisure and diving centre provided a FINA-compliant facility capable of hosting elite sporting competitions.

“With the facility expected to host more than 800,000 people each year, including some of the superstars of international sport, this infrastructure is exciting for our region,” Mr Sukkar said.

“With a 66.5 metre 10-lane pool, diving facilities, 30-seat café, child care facilities, seating for 800 spectators and two club and community meeting rooms, this project will put Ringwood on the world’s sporting map and will deliver a significant boost to the local economy and community.”

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs said the Australian Government had invested $10 million towards the aquatic facility, with the project creating over 340 jobs for residents.

“The completion of this project is yet another example that Michael Sukkar and the Australian Government are delivering better community infrastructure in Deakin,” Mr Briggs said.

“We are investing in several important community projects locally such as the East Ringwood Reserve Sporting Pavilion Redevelopment, the Kevin Pratt Pavilion Redevelopment at Mullum Mullum Reserve and the Walker Park Community Safety Netting project at Mitcham Football Club.

Construction on Aquanation started in July 2013 and finished last month.

The Aquanation project was jointly funded by Australian Government providing $10 million, Victoria Government $3 million, Maroondah City Council $34.6 million, Maroondah Community Enterprises $200,000, Diving Victoria $100,000, Ringwood Diving Club $100,000 and Connect East investing $20,000.
