Shadow Minister visits Ringwood RSL for Anzac Day Dawn Service
The Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson, joined Deakin Liberal candidate, Michael Sukkar, at the Ringwood RSL Dawn Service this Anzac Day to pay tribute to local veterans who have served in the Australian Defence Force.
Senator Ronaldson, attending the Dawn Service at the Ringwood RSL for the first time, said he was deeply moved to see so many local residents in attendance at the solemn ceremony.
“The local RSL continues a very fine tradition by hosting a solemn Dawn Service in honour of the service and sacrifice of all of those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Australian Defence Force”, Senator Ronaldson said.
“I was pleased to lay a wreath alongside Liberal candidate, Michael Sukkar, and representatives of the local community. It was also great to speak to veterans after the service at the Gunfire breakfast at the RSL.”
“Michael Sukkar and I spoke to many veterans, war widows and veterans’ family members about the importance of Anzac Day to them. All were encouraged to see so many local community members attending to pay their respects on Anzac Day.”
Liberal candidate for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, said he was honoured to participate in the annual Dawn Service.
“Hundreds of people from the Deakin community have, over more than a century, served their nation with pride in the Australian Defence Force. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice and the ceremonies throughout Deakin today will honour that service and sacrifice”, Mr Sukkar said.
“The participation and attendance of so many young people, school students and young families, shows that the local community is very much aware of the significance and importance of Anzac Day, as well as its ongoing relevance to Australian life.”
“Senator Ronaldson, as Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, has been a regular visitor to Deakin. I was pleased that he was able to visit again this morning and to spend time talking to local veterans, war widows and community members this Anzac Day.”
