Sukkar Delivers $10,000 to Croydon Historical Society

Federal Member for Deakin, Michael Sukkar, today announced $10,000 for a publishing project to give future generations insights into the current life of Croydon.

Mr Sukkar said he was delighted to confirm that the Coalition Government is providing funds to the Croydon Historical Society for this important local heritage project.

“The Government is committed to instilling a new sense of pride in our heritage,” he said.

“This work was promised during the election campaign, and the Government has delivered on this commitment to the people of Deakin.

“The Croydon Historical Society is already hard at work bringing together text and photographs to record a snapshot of Croydon.

“The photographic book will capture the interior and exterior of buildings through the suburb and, once completed, will be an invaluable information and educational resource for Croydon.

“It will be a time capsule for future generations.”

The Government will provide $1.4 million over the next three years to support local history and heritage groups across Australia under the new Community Heritage and Icons Programme.

“Community heritage and historical groups like the Croydon Historical Society will be able to apply for funding of up to $10,000 for individual projects,” Mr Sukkar said.

“The new programme will provide practical support to heritage and community groups that play a vital role in the conservation, development and exhibition of our local heritage.

“Applications for the first round of the Community Heritage and Icons Programme are expected to be invited in the new financial year.

“I encourage Deakin’s heritage and historical societies to apply.”
