The Australian Government has approved funding to deliver the Surrey Road and Junction Road intersection upgrade in Blackburn North, which will ease traffic congestion and improve safety.
Construction of this intersection upgrade will start in May, with completion expected in August.
Project benefits include:
- Less congestion for motorists exiting Junction Road
- Less delays for buses turning right into Junction Road
- Reduced crash frequency at the intersection
- Better street lighting, brighter traffic signal lanterns and bicycle lane pavements will also improve safety for road users
Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs said this project shows that Michael Sukkar is delivering better roads in Blackburn North.
“The Australian Government is fully funding the $500,000 Surrey Road and Junction Road Intersection upgrade, a key piece of infrastructure for the Deakin electorate,” Mr Briggs said.
Federal Member for Deakin Michael Sukkar said the project was another example of the Australian Government getting on and delivering improved infrastructure for his electorate.
“I’m pleased this funding has been approved, and I look forward to construction getting underway soon,” Mr Sukkar said.
“This is a dangerous intersection and statistics show it has a poor crash history.
“In the five years ending 31 December 2013, the recorded crashes included two casualty crashes at the intersection, both involving vehicles turning right out of Junction Road.
