Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, has today announced the completion of the Bedford Rd and Great Ryrie St signalisation project in Ringwood.
The $1million traffic and rail signalisation project was fully funded by the Federal Government as part of the Commonwealth Infrastructure Investment Programme.
Mr Sukkar said it was exciting to see that the traffic lights at the intersection were now operational.
“Having initiated and funded the Bedford Rd and Great Ryrie St signalisation some years ago, it’s great to see this project finally deliver a safer and more efficient intersection for both pedestrians and motorists,” Mr Sukkar said.
“Growing up in Ringwood and attending school locally, this intersection was always a bugbear of the community. This personal experience was one of the reasons I initiated and funded the Bedford Rd and Great Ryrie St signalisation project.
“Even though we put a man on the moon faster than it took to get this project done, it’s great that we finally have a safer and more efficient intersection for both pedestrians and motorists.”
The Government is investing a record $50 billion in Australia’s land transport infrastructure to improve road and rail links, reduce travel times and support economic growth.
