JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

5 March 2025

$5,000,000 TO IMPROVE SAFETY AT WARRANDYTE 5-WAYS INTERSECTION.

If elected, a Dutton Coalition Government will invest $5,000,000 towards upgrading the Warrandyte ‘5-Ways’ intersection, improving safety and congestion.

Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety Tony Pasin MP, said while the Albanese Labor Government had cut, cancelled, or delayed more than $30 billion in infrastructure, this project never even got to the starting line despite the Labor candidate pledging support for it during the 2022 election campaign.

“The former Coalition Government left Labor a $120 billion pipeline of infrastructure projects to improve safety and boost productivity. Under Albanese road users have witnessed cuts, cancellations, delays, cost blow outs and in the case of the Warrandyte ‘5-Ways’ intersection, broken promises,” Mr Pasin said.

“This is a clear example of the Labor Government’s infrastructure investment decisions being based on politics rather than evidence, and productivity is being put on hold, and community safety compromised as a result.

“Warrandyte road users can be assured that Keith Wolahan has been fighting for this intersection to receive the upgrades needed to improve safety and reduce congestion, and under an elected Dutton Coalition Government $5 million in Federal Government funding will be delivered because unlike Labor, the Coalition honours our funding commitments,” Mr Pasin said.

Members for Menzies and Deakin, Keith Wolahan MP and Michael Sukkar MP emphasised the urgent need for safety improvements at the ‘5-Ways’ intersection.

“The ‘5-Ways’ intersection is sadly known for danger and delay. Most residents of Warrandyte can recall a close call.”

“There has already been a fatality. No one wants another serious accident or fatality to be the catalyst for the intersection to receive the funding required. Enough is enough. Let’s get it done!” Mr Wolahan said.

“With Labor neglecting the eastern suburbs and the atrocious state of our road network, it will take a Coalition Government to upgrade the Warrandyte 5-Ways Intersection and make travel safer and faster for our community,” Mr Sukkar said.

Mr Wolahan and Mr Sukkar expressed hope the Coalition’s funding commitment would encourage the Victorian State Government to prioritise this overdue upgrade, one that is also a priority for Manningham Council.

This funding commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to get our roads and road safety Back on Track.
