LABOR HAS ABANDONED PORTER DAVIS VICTIMS
Two weeks after the collapse of Porter Davis it is now clear that the customers, employees and contractors across more than 1,700 builds in Victoria and Queensland have been completely abandoned by Labor.
The innocent victims of Porter Davis entering liquidation are getting no answers or support from the Albanese Government or State Labor Governments in Victoria and Queensland.
Indeed, thousands of innocent Porter Davis customers will face financial devastation due to this callous disregard, and Federal Housing Minister Julie Collins has gone missing.
Labor has been on notice about the precarious state of the industry with a succession of construction businesses in distress and entering administration or liquidation. Sadly, it’s unlikely that the demise of Porter Davis and PBS Building will be the last construction giants to collapse under Labor’s watch.
According to the Housing Industry Association, building approvals in the first month of 2023 dropped to their lowest level in over a decade.
Not only are lives being destroyed by these failures but further jobs are at risk, and the homes predominantly first home buyers are desperately looking for just aren’t being built.
The former Coalition Government worked closely with the residential construction industry during the darkest days of COVID-19, supporting this vital industry through, including with the highly successful HomeBuilder program.
It is time for this Government to start taking responsibility for this vital industry and the innocent victims who are paying the price for Labor’s inaction today.
