LATEST ABS DATA REVEALS LABOR’S HOUSING CRISIS HAS WORSENED

June housing data released today has confirmed approvals are down a further 6.5 per cent. This means Labor’s housing crisis is just getting worse, with record levels of migration putting even more pressure on this dwindling housing supply.

With Labor treating the housing portfolio as a dumping ground for failed ministers, it’s no wonder approvals are down further.

The newly minted Housing Minister – who is responsible for the record levels of migration – clearly hasn’t read her incoming brief when yesterday she claimed Labor is still on track to meet its 1.2 million homes promise.

Clare O’Neil should be honest with the Australia people that based on Labor’s own figures they are at least 350,000 homes short of this promise. This means fewer homes will be built in this five-year period than any five-year period over the last 25 years.

With record migration under Labor, Clare O’Neil is staring at the problem of her own making in Home Affairs. The Prime Minister must now admit he has broken yet another promise on housing.

This latest data is further evidence that Labor continues to wave the white flag on homeownership. With rents skyrocketing 22 per cent since the election and rental vacancies at historic lows, we have a government that has no idea about housing.

The only housing policies that continue to deliver support to first home buyers are the housing policies Labor inherited from the former Coalition Government.
