NO NEW MONEY, NO NEW IDEAS AND NO NEW HOMES… JUST THE SAME LABOR HOUSING CRISIS

Labor’s claim of an investment of $32 billion in housing is just another fraud on the Australian people.

Less than $3 billion of the Albanese government’s proposed $32 billion housing funding has actually been disbursed for the construction of new homes. It’s unclear on how many dwellings have commenced construction, with no new homes believed to have even been completed.

Labor has dragged its heels for more than two years on addressing their housing crisis and misleading Australians with farcical ‘new’ funding announcements, with billions of dollars in promises – including $5.5 billion for ‘Help to Buy’ – tied to policies that have yet to even pass the Parliament.

The unfortunate reality is, it’s no new money, no new ideas, no new homes, nothing for first home buyers, no new initiatives for renters – just the same Labor housing crisis.

Australians already know the Albanese government will fall well short of its promise to build 1.2 million homes over the next five years, so it’s important to reflect back on the myriad of failed policy attempts and overall refusal to listen to the Australian people when it comes to addressing Labor’s housing crisis.

Within this $32 billion, there is also a notable absence of specific support for first home buyers or initiatives aimed at significantly increasing housing supply.

It begs the question: What on earth has Labor been doing for the past two years?

The only programs helping first home buyers are the former Coalition Government’s highly successful Home Guarantee Scheme and First Home Super Saver Scheme. Both criticised by Labor at the time.

The Coalition is proud to confirm that one in three first home buyers are accessing home ownership with a deposit as little as 5 per cent or 2 per cent through policies that were put in place by the former Coalition government.
