Friends of the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary were busy bees on Saturday morning, working hard to protect the beautiful natural bushland reserve at Blackburn Lake.
Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, and Robert Clark, State Member for Box Hill, joined the conservation volunteers in their efforts to pull out noxious weeds at the popular park.
Michael congratulated the volunteers on their tireless efforts to care for the important environmental asset.
“These volunteers do a tremendous job of looking after the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary in order to preserve the precious asset for future generations,” he said.
Earlier this year, Michael announced that the Coalition Government would support the preservation of the Sanctuary through a Green Army project.
The project, which is due to start in March, will help with the revegetation and regeneration of the bushland at the Sanctuary.
“The Green Army project will provide a real boost to the efforts of the volunteers and the Whitehorse City Council and help to ensure the bushland continues to provide a protected habitat for plants and animals, and a special place for residents to enjoy, for years to come,” he said.
Working Bees are held regularly at the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary.
